15th Annual Kids First Health Fair.
This award-winning event was started by LWV of Lake County in 1992.
Now sponsored by the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. The Fair is designed to assist limited-income families residing in Lake County in meeting school health requirements for their children, and to provide preventive health services. Children in grades kindergarten through ninth, who are from qualifying families,will receive their required physical and dental exams, as well as needed blood work. Kids also receive free school supplies and backpacks.

Green Youth Farm Lunch at Greenbelt Forest Preserve.
The North Chicago Green Youth Farm is a partnership between the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Lake County Forest Preserve District and Growing Power, Inc. which started in spring of 2003 as a pilot program aimed at reaching out to youth in the underserved communities of North Chicago and Waukegan. The goal of the program was to teach the students through a paid work experience the value of healthy food and hard work and expose them to careers in the rapidly growing "green industry."

Announcing UDPREP's 2007 Annual Meeting and Fundraiser!
"Green Streets: from Portland to the Plains" Organized in cooperation with the Prairie Crossing Institute and Liberty Prairie Foundation.
Join us for this special event celebrating innovations in green stormwater infrastructure and recent efforts to protect and restore the Upper Des Plaines River Watershed. The event will feature confirmed keynote speaker Commissioner Sam Adams of the City of Portland, Oregon. Portland is a leader in progressive stormwater management technologies and environmental policies. Commissioner Adams will give an inspiring presentation on Portland's award-winning implementation of bioswales, green roofs, curb cuts, and other green infrastructure techniques in an urban setting. Following the formal program, Institute and Foundation staff will lead guided tours of Prairie Crossing's watershed-friendly stormwater systems, highlighting new features and lessons learned. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for an afternoon of invigorating speakers and ideas!
